  • A wheelchair-bound man who is an entrepreneur – he visits the barbershop with drinks, fruit and snacks. He is an inspiration.
  • Elected to serve on the pastor search  committee (team of 9 members) at UMMBC.
  • Outstanding performance of Maid’s Door presented by the NC Black Repertory Company. Great acting and excellent panel discussions after each performance.
  • The students (and teachers) at Ephesus Jr. Academy – making the last book delivery this week before school ends.
  • Congratulations to Imani Brown (a little girl I picked up as a child in church) – graduated from Hampton University and has grown into a fine young woman.

  • RaVonda Dalton Rann (and her family) – as they grieve their loss.

  • Meeting Diane and Barney Newberry from South Boston, Va. recently at the Barn Dinner theatre.
  • Charles Fox (my cousin Vicky’s son) – discharged from the hospital after 8 days and being on a respirator.
  • Phelicia “Shea” Price – celebrating her 1-year kidney transplant anniversary. She is raising money for the cause here. Help if you can.

  • Ambassador Suzan Cook gave an outstanding commencement address. The preacher preached, connected with everyone and added a little humor.
  • A 2016 graduate asked permission and was granted to propose to his girlfriend, in the 2017 class. What a way to end commencement.
  • A photo story of commencement weekend at Livingstone College.
  • Great work done by the Weston family and the recent award luncheon.
  • Dinner and play at the Barn Dinner Theatre (Art of Murder) – enjoyable evening.
  • Sam Branch – is out of Duke hospital.

She completed all of her course work with in and out of the hospital. She was also the valedictorian and pre-taped her speech which was shared at graduation. Moving, powerful and not many dry eyes in the stadium.

Joshua 4. What do you look to as a reminder of where you are today?
  • A great message yesterday by Rev. Dr. Howard Gray based on Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. His message: if you do not get weary in well doing, if you don’t faint, you will reap the benefits in due season.
  • My column about respect this week after a visit to my alma mater.
  • A great “white party” to celebrate 25 years of doing good by the group “Friends.”
  • Serving as a judge for the 7th annual Gate City Youth Slam on the campus of A&T State University.
  • Sigma Pi Phi awarded two $1,000 scholarships to two high school seniors based on their essay, My Brother’s Keeper.
  • Working with Rich Schlentz to deliver and coach Results-Focused Presenting at HanesBrands.

  • W-S Alumni Chapter provided food for the Livingstone College Track team during the 2017 Aggie Invitational.
  • 8 current Livingstone College students from W-S who applied for a scholarship from the W-S Alumni Chapter.
  • Lunch with Micha and Michai James at Sweet Potatoes to sample the menu for the soon to be opened Miss Ora’s Kitchen.
  • Sweet Potatoes Kickstarter campaign has reached its goal for the new restaurant thanks to community support.
