Please Pray . . . And Give Thanks

IT IS ALL RIGHT TO BE HUMAN.
When your mind wanders while you are praying, don’t be surprised or upset.
Simply return your attention to Me.
Share a secret smile with Me, knowing that I understand.
Rejoice in My Love for you, which has no limits or conditions.
Whisper My Name in loving contentment, assured that I will never leave you or forsake you.
Intersperse these peaceful interludes abundantly throughout your day.
This practice will enable you to attain a quiet and gentle spirit, which is pleasing to me.

I bless God every chance I get;
my lungs expand with his praise.
I live and breathe God;
if things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy:
Join me in spreading the news;
together let’s get the word out.
God met me more than halfway,
he freed me from my anxious fears.
Look at him; give him your warmest smile.
Never hide your feelings from him.
When I was desperate, I called out,
and God got me out of a tight spot.
God’s angel sets up a circle
of protection around us while we pray.
Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see—
how good God is.
Blessed are you who run to him.
Worship God if you want the best;
worship opens doors to all his goodness.
Young lions on the prowl get hungry,
but God-seekers are full of God.

The essence of prayer is not our searching for God,

because that can easily become too active,

but rather our waiting, our letting go,

our bearing with our own inadequacy.

Waiting for someone is a very authentic way of honoring that person,

more authentic perhaps than any words we might speak or gifts we might offer.

In waiting we experience our own powerlessness.

Waiting does not come easily.

However, we cannot force God.

God will come, there is no doubt about that, but in God’s own time.

Therefore, wait for me there!

The waiting is not empty, dead time.

We wait because there is already a relationship.

We wait for Someone.

A lesson from a child . . .

“An eight-year-old boy named Jeremy was having his annual checkup and the pediatrician began tapping on his chest. ‘Do you hear that sound?’ he asked. ‘That is the sound of your lungs. Do you know what your lungs are filled with?’ ‘Air,’ said the boy. ‘And do you hear that solid sound?’ the doctor continued. ‘That is your heart. What is your heart filled with?’ ‘Love,’ Jeremy said.”

While Jeremiah was still locked up in jail, a second Message from God was given to him:

 “This is God’s Message, the God who made earth, made it livable and lasting, known everywhere as God:

‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’
