  • Sermon Series The Gospel of John. My notes yesterday after the sermon: “So, Pastor Prince R. Rivers has been following me again and preached a sermon directed to my place on my Pew this morning. In the series “The Gospel of John”: Raising Your Faith. John 11: -1-57. Not only did he preach to me, he invited me to read part of the scripture (the red letter text, Jesus’ words). And then this coincidence: I read a message by Professor Medley the day before that quoted Scott Peck and Pastor Rivers quoted the same passage that opens the book, “The Road Less Traveled.” Peck starts with “Life is difficult.” And once you understand that and accept that, life is no longer difficult. Some points from the message this morning that are sitting with me now: Faith should grow over time; we have experience with God; Jesus can use a crisis to raise our faith (he pointed the spotlight on me with that statement); what do we need to do only by faith? The frustration of life cannot overcome the faithfulness of God; Time can be a real barrier to our faith; Even Now! The language of a growing faith. How are you raising your faith today? And if that was not enough, I sat in my car (with tears flowing, something had to come out) listening to Dorothy Norwood sing “Something happens when a church begins to pray.” I’ve just had church again, by myself, sitting in Starbucks. Amen!”
